Rancho La Jolla

Danny Farrar has been vending at the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market since 2005.

Danny is a native New Mexican. He’s quiet and soft spoken and asks very thoughtful questions. His farm, located in Velarde, was his mother’s family’s land. His grandfather farmed the property before he did and his father ran the local apple shed. He lives in the house he grew up in. Before farming, he worked as an electrician. Throughout his lifetime, as grocery stores were able to provide produce year-round, he saw the local farms in his area abandoned. Like most farmers, Danny isn’t in it for the money or the glory. It is the hard work and honest living that he appreciates.

His land features a three acre orchard and the most beautiful lettuce beds in lieu of a front lawn. A large greenhouse held what must have been thousands of tomatoes and peppers. Danny wholesales a lot of his produce to Cid’s Market in Taos and to the public schools, but he still makes time to sell at the Market. He would love to see more middle class community members, educated and aware of the importance of supporting local agriculture, shopping at our Market.

Danny is on the board of Farm to Table.
