Leaving Early or Arriving Late

Due to a multitude of hazardous factors that have presented themselves over the past few weeks, vendors will no longer be able to pack up and leave the market early on Saturdays. If you come to the market in the morning, you will be staying till it closes. The only exceptions that will be made for this medical reasons (with proof) or extenuating personal circumstances. If this applies to you, please let Devon know a day before market. If it’s an emergency and you need to leave promptly – call me so I know something happened and you had to leave.

For everyone else, If you sell out early, you may leave your table and come back when market closes between 1:00 & 1:15 to break down and load out. Staff will be passing out small cutouts of this procedure on Saturday. Vendors are also arriving past the 6:30 cut off in the mornings and still expecting to be in their reserved space. If you want your reserved space, arrive in a timely manner. Just because it’s reserved, it won’t be held for you if your aren’t on time. Please note that the following rule from Official Rules & Regulations will be implemented “Failure to leave (or arrive) in a timely and orderly manner may result in revocation of your space and/or fines of $10 to be paid prior to entering the Market the following market day.”

Food Depot Donation Reminder

They will have a booth during most market days where vendors and customers can donate directly to them. On days when we’re at full capacity and they don’t have a booth, people can give produce donations to the Info Booth who will put it in the fridge till pick up. Cash cart folks will also accept produce donations from vendors from 12:30-1:45, the same time they can turn in their tokens. Thank you!

News from the Institute

State Organic Certification Program Under Threat

NMDA sent a press release recently asking for input from farmers, ranchers and processors and other with a stake in the state’s Organic Program to attend a series of listening sessions regarding the programs funding and future. Unfortunately, they gave very little notice and scheduled the meetings during the busiest season for farmers. In addition, the closest meeting for NNM constituents was held in Albuquerque on Wednesday, August 3.

Please see today’s New Mexican article on the issue: http://www.santafenewmexican.com/news/local_news/new-mexico-organic-certification-program-at-crossroads/article_04acf2d5-794f-55d5-81cc-d2e5f24d8fef.html

As more information is made available, we will let you know how you can support the Institute in any lobbying efforts during the legislative session. Also, please contact your Organic Certification representative and let them know what you think!
