Bill’s Father worked for the Department of State and the family lived in Brazil, Argentina, and El Salvador. He graduated from high school in Bethesda, Maryland and went to college at Beloit College, obtaining a BA in chemistry. He then went to graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley, obtaining a PhD in Chemistry. During that time he was drafted and spent 2 years in the Army, mostly at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC. After graduate school he spent 2 ½ years at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. He returned to the US to spend 4 years at the National Bureau of Standards and then moved to Santa Fe to work at Los Alamos National Lab. After about 28 years at Los Alamos, he retired. Since that time he has been hanging about Santa Fe, spending some time in Puerto Rico where he and his wife own a home. It’s time to return a little service to the community so he spends some time with the Santa Fe Alliance for Science, helping with Science Fairs in the Santa Fe schools and was recently elected to the Board of the SFFM.
